A FULL LIFE

It is theorized by some that some deaths do occur before they should and other strongly believe that all deaths are pre-destined and we all eventually succumb at that appointed time.

When death does occur, under whatever circumstances, it provides fodder for both sides of the argument.

The sudden and shocking death of Dave Marquez solidly fortifies the argument that one can pass before his time. Anyone who came across the affable character, who experienced Dave’s enthusiasm for life will strongly argue that he was taken from us prematurely, that his pre-determined time had not yet arrived.

Dave was the quintessential “Gouyave man”, he excelled in all sporting disciplines – going on to represent Grenada in Basketball and Volleyball. His knowledge of the ocean and the varieties of fish there-in bordered on expert. He was a carnival enthusiast with a special affinity for jouvert and he was probably Grenada’s biggest fan of foundation reggae music – always quoting Dennis Brown, Sugar Minott, Freddie McGregor, Tenor Saw etc.

Professionally he could be described as the Dwayne Bravo of NAWASA, possessing all round intellectual and technical skills that enabled him to serve all departments effectively.

Dave will be remembered and mourned by those whose lives he touched because of his infectious sense of humor and his desire to live life to the fullest. His vigor and fervor for life and enjoying all it entailed was equally matched by his dedication to family.

Recently his teenage son was selected to represent Grenada at the inaugural Junior Pan American Games, competing at table tennis. It goes without saying that Dave was the biggest cheerleader and supporter of the young athlete. His social media postings of both his son and nephew is testimony to the pride of a true family man.

The 1986 Graduating Class of the St. John’s Christian Secondary School, the local Basketball fraternity, the Town of Gouyave, The Management and Staff at NAWASA and the plethora of friends who had the good fortunate of knowing Dave Marquez are in deep mourning and will miss him for a very long time. This one hurts.

To his immediate and extended Family we all share your grief, please accept our heartfelt sympathies. To his young Son, your Dad has put you on the right path to keep some aspects of his legacy alive, rest assured we will all be cheering for and supporting you.

To a full life, well-lived- Rest In Peace Scallawah.
